Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 8, 2026

Middah Map (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is a tool that helps Jewish day school teachers document and reflect on their students’ character development. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

If you have questions, contact us at support@middahmap.org.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Your name and email address (when you create an account)
  • Your school name and role
  • Student first and last names, grade level
  • Observation notes and character strength records you enter for students

Information from Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google. We do not receive your Google password or access to other Google services.

Technical information

We collect standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and debugging purposes. We do not use this information for advertising or tracking.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and provide the Middah Map service
  • To generate AI-assisted character narratives based on observations you enter
  • To send you transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets)
  • To improve the product based on how it is used

We do not send marketing emails, sell your data, or use your information for advertising.

3. AI-Assisted Features

Middah Map uses AI to help generate narrative text based on the observations you record. When you use this feature, the observation data you have entered is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the narrative. This data is used only to process your request and is not used to train AI models.

4. Student Data

Information about students — including their names, grades, and character observations — is entered by teachers and belongs to the school. We treat this data with particular care:

  • Student data is only accessible to teachers and administrators at the same school
  • We do not share student data with third parties except as necessary to operate the service (e.g., our database provider, Supabase)
  • We do not use student data for advertising or any purpose beyond operating Middah Map

Schools using Middah Map are responsible for obtaining any necessary parental consents under applicable law, including FERPA in the United States.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your data. We share information only with the service providers necessary to operate Middah Map:

  • Supabase — database and authentication infrastructure
  • Anthropic — AI narrative generation (observation data only, when you use this feature)
  • Vercel — website hosting

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and observation records for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable time. Student records are retained as long as the school’s account is active.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format

To exercise any of these rights, email support@middahmap.org.

California residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

8. Users Under 18

Middah Map is intended for use by adult educators. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@middahmap.org and we will promptly delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls that limit data to authorized users within each school. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable precautions to protect your information.

10. Cookies

We use one cookie: a session cookie that keeps you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or any tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for details.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by posting a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page reflects when the policy was last updated.
